The introduction of Flash Video for Flash Web Animation graphics interface developed by Macromedia (now merged with Adobe) became prevalent on most webpage applications to watch free streaming, peer-to-peer video clips. As a replacement of a cheap webpage video streaming application that requires a multimedia player software, a Flash graphics-based video clips reduces “hanged” buffering and dependency of functionality. Websites like YouTube—a popular Flash Video clip-sharing sites that require uploading of home-made digital video—is an example of this purpose.

However, I found that Flash Video may not produce a true vector-based video graphics interface, but rather only raster-based (pixel-producing video detail). Since Flash graphics is a vector-based web graphic application, I was so disappointing for the developer of the said system because of limited capabilities to develop. As I observed, a raster-based Flash Video would only increase Internet connection bandwidth even at high resolution and frame rate motion.

But there are some ways to produce vector-based Flash Video system graphics by means of vectorizing chroma detail. The concept I imagined, known as “Chroma Zone”, produces vector object of every separate chrominance—either monochrome or tricolor—in a single frame. The vectorized video may be enhanced with blending effect when combining vector chroma object aside from being solid detail, giving true-to-life picture just like from film movie. This “proposed” new system reduces Internet connection bandwidth and increases image quality compared to current raster-based Flash Video.

So how this new system works? A raster-based digital video signal from any devices such as DV camera or digital VCR separates tricolor (or monochrome) into red, green, and blue (or black and white) image. Then the blended separate chrome is now converting to a full solid color. The solid chrome in pixilated detail is now vectorized by means of “intelligent draft” using the Flash-based graphics system, similar to the concept of drawing as 2D Flash animated object in vector form. Next, the vectorized chrome video is added with blending effects, in which this technique should be based from original raster image. Finally, the three separate vectorized chroma are now combining together to become a full vectorized chroma are now combining together to become a full vectorized video streaming. The system can be saved with a file extension I imagined to be proposed called “CZM”, short for “chroma zone movie” and can be exported later to Adobe Flash Movie with the file extension SWF, short for Shockwave Flash.

The complete diagram of producing vector-based video graphics is shown below.

This process can also convert from raster still image (in JPEG, GIF, BMP, PNG, or TIFF format) to vectorized still image to produce as mentioned, but instead of using CZM, it will use with “CZI”, short for “chroma zone image.”

Another technique to produce vector-based Flash Video graphics is that every single chroma object in a single frame “imitates” the same single chroma object but differ in form in another frame. This process is called “vector chroma object motion shape point tween”. This can save even more bandwidth reduction as compared to frame-to-frame vector motion technique.

Time will tell if someone—even the developer of Adobe Flash—reading this blog would accept my own concept that will be soon in reality to develop for the upcoming release of Adobe Flash 10 in the future. Even if I don’t have to invent this for myself, it is my only dream to realize.
